About the STAR Training Centre The OPAL STAR Training Centre is the first center in Oman to be awarded the OPAL STAR, providing specialised training for the Oil and Gas sector. The STAR (Standards for Training, Assurance & Recognition) Technician Apprenticeship Programmes and Technical Short-Courses have been developed specifically to meet the requirements of the Oil and Gas industry and are internationally recognised by using UK regulated awarding bodies. The center is operated, on behalf of OPAL, by the premier training company NTI (National Training Institute); the training staff are all internationally qualified and have extensive experience in both working in industry and delivering training. STAR Technician Programmes include quality-assured training in engineering, and is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of employees and trainees and to qualify them as competent Oil and Gas technicians in the following trades: • Electrical Maintenance • Instrumentation • Electrical & Instrumentation (Combined) • Mechanical Maintenance • Process Operations Short Courses: The OPAL STAR Centre’s short-courses have been designed to provide gap closure in the skill-set of new and existing employees within local industry. The courses are knowledge and competency based consisting of the right mix of classroom and practical activities, providing the learner with an in-depth understanding of the subjects being studied. The centre has a wide range of practical training and assessment resources including two training rigs housed in a purpose-built production hall. One training rig is a fully operational three-phase separator. The other is a water treatment plant. Both rigs are controlled by an Emerson Delta V - Distributed Control System (DCS) in a dedicated control room. The training rigs simulate a real ‘live’ production environment giving the students hands-on, operational experience on a wide range of equipment. There are multi-gantry access levels, which accommodate a number of trainees working in both collaborative and independent settings. The training workshops are generously equipped with the tools and equipment required to undertake general engineering maintenance tasks.
